Brand + Web Systems
The Artichoke Project
A music archive, identity, and digital home built around 25 years of history.
A responsive band website designed to bring music, archival photography, releases, video, and community touchpoints into one cohesive digital experience.
Objective
Give a long-running independent band a site that could present its history, new release, music, and archive without losing its raw identity.
My Role
Brand presentation, web design, responsive UI, content organization, music-page experience, archive/gallery presentation, and visual direction.
Identity + Direction
Minimal, dark, and deliberately raw.
The visual system leans into the band's existing character rather than polishing it into something generic. Black fields, distressed typography, archival imagery, and restrained interface elements give the site a direct, independent feel.
The goal was to let the music, history, and photography carry the personality while the interface stayed simple and functional.
Music Experience
The site functions as a place to listen, not just a place to read.
The music section combines release presentation, mailing-list access, track playback, and album context in a focused black-on-black interface.
Archive + Gallery
History presented as part of the brand.
The gallery was designed around archival band and performance photography, allowing the site's history to feel lived-in rather than decorative.
Responsive Content System
Different content types, one consistent visual language.
Music, archival imagery, band history, and release-specific content all use the same simple visual rules, allowing the site to stay cohesive without feeling over-designed.
Project Takeaway
A digital home that feels like the band, not a template around it.
The Artichoke Project rounds out the Brand + Web portfolio by showing a very different kind of client system: music, archive, identity, responsive design, and audience engagement.
